Austria !

Austria is absolutely gorgeous. We would love to move here......ski all winter......hike and bike all summer!
We started our decent into Austria via Budapest late afternoon. After searching into the night for places (hostel or campground) we ended up sleeping in our car......for some reason everything was booked.

Vienna is a large city, very clean and modern. We basically drove through it because it wasn't exactly what we wanted to see. From Vienna we made our way to Salzburg. It was a gorgeous drive through miles and miles of lush green farmland. The scenery was picturesque.

We took a de-tour to Salzkammergut, a lake district outside Salzburg. There was this one lake that was the cleanest, calmest and brightest turquoise we had ever seen. Tiny Bavarian-like communities surrounded the lake, it made for the perfect vacation area.

When we arrived in Salzburg we set up tent in a beautiful backyard. The forest-like campground was only a few kilometres away from the downtown core. We went downtown and indulged in delicious food and beer. Many of the downtown buildings were build right into the mountain.....very cool.

After a downpour of rain , we made our way into a tiny German ski village called Kings Lake. We walked the village and ended up at a quaint German cafe where we tried our first piece of pflaumenkuchen, which is plum cake(Oma's is better).

This morning we drove to Innsbruck, Austria. Our drive through the Austrian mountains was incredible. We hit snow at the peak of our drive. Castles spontaneously appeared throughout the drive on hilltops. We are camping in the Austrian mountains and have astonishing panorama views. It is a bit chilly but we have a warm camp hut beside us that has Internet, dinner tables and a washing machine (Yes moms, we are washing our clothes).

Tomorrow we are heading to Zurich, Switzerland. Its time to find some soup and coffee to warm up!

Lots of love,
Carmen and Carlo
